Hi there everyone!

I'm Jim Palermo, and I'm sure that all the "old hands" will recognize me. For those new to practice, I've been associated with Floss Avenue for the past 23 years, as the person filling prescriptions and actually making the many types of dental restorations we deal with in the office (technically speaking, a Certified Dental Technologies: with my certifications in Crown and Bridge and Ceramic restoration.)

Speaking of restorations, it truly is a wonderful time to be able to have restoration performed, due to the advances made in ceramics, resin technology and implantology.

Fifteen years ago, we were limited for all intents and purposes, to porcelain fused to metal designs, even for single crowns. Within the past several years, we've adopted new techniques and materials now allowing us to work with much more esthetic and biocompatible materials such as full ceramic and light cured composite inlays, onlays and crowns.

One of the materials we're highest on is "Cergo," injection molded, ceramic material that can be used to fabricate restorations that are truly life like AND metal free! No more worries over the introduction of even more metals into the mouth. Likewise the light cured composites. This versatile new material can be used to fabricate full and partial restorations, but can also be used for bridgework when bonded to a high gold content, biologically inert framework. These restorations have to be seen to be believed, if you can! They typically "disappear" into the oral environment with hardly a trace.

Implants are another arena, which has benefited from technological advances. In the past, the implant, once placed had a titanium cap, which had to be screwed to the implant itself. Now we can work with gold alloy "caps" that are laboratory modified and cemented directly to the implant itself, not leaving the telltale metal access rim on the surface of the restoration.

Truly this is a time to be happy when needing to have dental restoration performed.
